One of the most important sporting events for Black Sea sailing, the Kaliakria Cup Black Sea Regatta 2009, took place between 4^th and 7^th June in the bay of Balchik. The official opening was held at Helios hotel in Balchik. On the next day, the 5^th June, at 10:00hrs sharp, 38 sailing yachts made a start for their first race, carried by the song of the winds through the splashing waves. The competition was held in six different classes: Conrad Peterson P25, Melges 74, Cruiser C1, Cruiser C2, Racer and Rally 9 Freestyle. Splitting the waves and enjoying good winds, the teams displayed tough spirits whilst pushing toward the finishing line along the route Balchik – the bay of Kaliakria Resort – Kranevo.

The prize giving ceremony and the closing of Kaliakria Cup 2009 was held on the 7^th June 2009 at the Balchik marina. Even our own crew with the Jeanneau 42 Sun Odyssey yacht ‘S.S Kaliakria’ was not let down by the good winds. It won 3^rd place in the Cruiser C1 class, challenging the bigger Bavaria 50 boats.

The prizes this year were a seven day stay at Kaliakria Resort for the winner, five days and a weekend respectfully for the second and third place.

Kaliakria Cup 2009 was greeted with great enthusiasm by participators and guests alike, who were able to observe the unforgettable sports event from the shore. The accommodation for the crews was arranged at Kaliakria Resort. In the evenings, exhausted but pleased after the tough races, the happy crowd was unwinding in the jolly atmosphere of the parties, organised by the resort team.
